Math At Home
My encouragement for families with math at home is that children are exposed to and involved in multiple "real life" math scenarios such as...
*Money sense (counting, adding, subtracting, recognition)
*Cooking with a recipe
*Building/fixing things at home
*Grocery shopping
*Laundry
*Telling time in multiple ways
Each of these things encompasses all of the many areas of math we learn about in school: addition, subtraction, counting, number recognition, sorting, patterning, 2d shapes, 3d shapes, estimation, mass, measurement, capacity, tallying, graphing, building, etc.
There are many wonderful online games and apps that encourage these math skills as well. Check out my "Educational Online Games" tabs. I have organized by grade level and subject for you to choose something you'd like your child to focus on.
Playing boardgames at home is another great family math activity.
Check out these games:
*Monopoly
*Snakes & Ladders
*Card games (Go Fish, Old Maid, Crazy 8's, Uno, etc)
*Candy Land
*Sorry!
*Connect 4
And many many more!
Board games are a great way to work on math skills at home.
