A Little About Me...

My Teaching Bio:
I was born and raised in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia, where I lived until May 2010 when I moved to Alberta. I lived in Edmonton for the summer, spent two years in Bonnyville teaching Kindergarten and then found my way back to Edmonton in the summer of 2012. In 2015, my husband and I moved back to Kelowna and started a family of our own. Our daughter, Mackenzie, was born in 2016 and our son, Jack, was born in 2019.
I attended the University of British Columbia and graduated in June 2010 with two degrees; a Bachelor of Arts in English and History and a Bachelor of Education, specializing in Elementary Education. In May 2020, I finished the Early Childhood Education Masters program through UBC and look forward to all the new insight and background knowledge it will bring to my teaching!
I love living in beautiful Kelowna and am very happy to be a part of Central Okanagan School District 23. I've worked with many amazing teachers and I am fortunate to continue to explore team-teaching opportunities with them despite being in different school divisions. I absolutely love teaching primary and look forward to going to "work" every day!
My Teaching Philosophy:
I truly love teaching! I think it is because I love to learn new things and I am constantly seeking out new subjects of interest in my own life. I strive to share this love of learning with my students and other Teachers. I find it such a privilege to spend my day with children learning to love learning! My teaching philosophy is "Tell me and I may forget; Show me and I may remember; Involve me and I'll understand". I believe we learn primarily through exploration and connecting relevance to our own lives. Some things we may find more value in than others but that is what makes us all unique and shows us what we are interested in!
My Personal Teaching Goal:
To create self-directed learners who are constantly questioning and evaluating new information. Who seek new information to compare to previous beliefs and challenge their current way of thinking. I believe my job is to teach children to work hard, to view all tasks as a way to discover their own areas of interest and to always try new things with an open mind. I think that even in things we do not enjoy we learn, and that ultimately, being open to those experiences can be where we learn the most.
Why Create A Website?:
I decided to create a website to better communicate with my students and their families. Through my website I can easily share free/low cost resources and ways to continue learning at home. I also plan to work on this website for the remainder of my teaching career and hope that it allows me to share resources and ideas with fellow teachers as well. If you find something useful to take away to use at home with your family or in your teaching then it was worth creating!

A Little About Me:
* I am lucky to live in Kelowna where my family and my husband's family live as well.
* I live with my husband, Jeff, my daughter, Mackenzie and my son, Jack. We have one cat; Jet and one dog; a Boston Terrier named Oakley. * I LOVE to travel and I am very fortunate to have been to numerous places around the world. * For fun I love to snowboard, play baseball, go to Zumba, go camping/fishing, read, listen to music, go hiking/running and hang out with friends and family. * I love all kinds of music... but I am a HUGE Country music fan! I am fortunate to have been to many concerts and music festivals all over AB and BC. |
